Things I really liked in October 2017

October felt like the longest month ever, in the best possible way.

October Highlights

My favorite memory from last month was definitely our friends’ wedding.

There were literal fireworks, the ceremony and dinner were both so beautiful and intimate, and we ended the night dancing and laughing in the pool. I couldn’t have planned a better wedding, honestly.

Another highlight? Halloween weekend. We went to this party at MoMA PS1, which I’ve never been to before.

I didn’t put much effort into my costume but it was really cool to see other people’s amazing makeovers…because that’s literally what it looked like. And it was nice to be out and wear something other than pajamas on the weekend for a change.

I can’t really wrap up the highlights of October without talking about Stranger Things. We watched it so painfully slow because we were barely at home that weekend and I even encountered a spoiler that made me really sad. All I will say is, if you want to reminisce about the best parts of the 80’s and watch young people be amazing, then Stranger Things is the show for you.

That’s a wrap for my October highlights. What was a highlight for you in the month of October?

Things I really liked in October (Fashion, Beauty, Lifestyle)

Fashion

1. My Loeffler Randall boots that I lost sleep over early on in the month. I talk about it here and show how I style them in four different ways. I guess I don’t have to worry about not knowing what to wear them with since they literally go with everything. They are so comfortable and give every look a metallic pop of color. If you follow me on Instagram then you may or may not be sick of seeing these boots in every outfit photo. I guess you could say money well spent.

2. A simple black skirt. Remember my Memoir of a not so frequent skirt wearer post? Apparently, my discomfort with skirts is a thing of the past. Well, at least October made it seem that way.

I got this black skirt from Aritizia (similar version from current season here) about two years ago and have worn it more times last month than the entire time I have owned it. I guess I found my skirt groove. This one is simple and has a flattering a-line. It’s also high-waisted and stretchy on top, which means I get to eat and move comfortably. This one gets an A+ from me.

3. My workout uniform: cropped sweatshirt + joggers + my APL sneakers
This may sound really gross but I’ve been wearing the same look to the gym. I work out every other day (or try to) so my clothes definitely have a chance to recover from all the sweat, and I wash them at the end of the week…so it’s not that gross, right?

Very blurry and sweaty

I’ve been looking online for a similar cropped sweatshirt and this Urban Outfitters is the best dupe I’ve found. It comes in 5 colors so maybe that might help me out in the hygiene department. It also has a hood in case I’m aiming for Eminem’s 8 mile look. I’m also taking a break from wearing tight leggings and have really been enjoying the airy feel of these Aerie jogger pants. And last but not least, I finally have proper sneakers!! These APL sneakers make me look like I know what I’m doing at the gym…or at least I think I look like it. It’s definitely a pair of shoes I do not regret buying.

Beauty

1. The Ordinary AHA 30% BHA 20% Peeling Solution (I talk about it in-depth in my Fall/Winter Skincare routine post).

This is the only skincare product that helps me get rid of pesky forehead bumps from sweat. It does sting when you first use it so apply thin layers to start getting your skin used to it. Only downside? You end up looking really creepy with it on…it’s beet red after all.

2. The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution

I’ve talked about this product countless times on here but it really is that good. Anytime I feel a pimple coming to the surface, I dab this on and most of the time the pimple never forms a whitehead and just goes away on its own. And pimples heal so much faster with this. Getting pimples aren’t as scary as they used to be. Not an ad and definitely not joking.

3. Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint

After avoiding face makeup like the plague all summer, I’m finally back onto Glossier perfecting skin tint. It honestly doesn’t seem like does much but it really does a good job of evening out redness on my chin and brightening up my undereye area. See below for proof.

No makeup

With just Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint

It’s so easy to use and doesn’t feel like anything on the skin. For someone who’s not a fan of makeup, I’m a fan of this. I’m also still working through my first bottle of this…I’ve had this for about a year now.

Lifestyle

1. New (to me) podcast alert: Pardon My French with Garance Doré.

Source: Ateliordore.com

I became fascinated by Garance Doré when I read about why she stopped going to fashion shows and stopped caring about doing what she was “supposed” to do. She started her fashion blog at 31 and illustrated street style outfits that inspired her. She is also the founder of style, beauty, and lifestyle site, Atelierdore.com. My favorite episode is the one where she talks to Violette, Global Beauty Director @ Estée Lauder. They both bond over their French roots, their nontraditional paths towards their career success, and how they do things their way. She also interviews Christian Louboutin, if you want to know more about the man behind the famous red soles. If you want to hear honest and inspiring conversations about career, life, society’s expectations for women, and doing things your own way then you might want to give this podcast a listen.

2. Stranger Things season 2

Source: Google

I just couldn’t wrap up this post without talking about Stranger Things again. This show will give you so many feelings, probably some tears, and a lot of good vibes. If you watched it already, what are your hopes for Season 3?

That’s a wrap on the month of October. What were some of your favorite things?

Thanks for stopping by. I’ll see you in my next post!

Sophie 🙂
