Me without makeup.
Let’s start with how I prep my face for the day.
I start by washing my face with my trusty Derma-E cleanser.
I’m about to move on to my third bottle of this. It does a really good job cleaning my face without making me feel dry. My husband also uses this and has no complaints. It also lasts a while. I don’t expect to buy another bottle of this until the Spring.
Once my skin is dry, I’ll go in with The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution as a “serum” to treat my acne-prone skin. It’s currently out of stock but should be back soon.
Skin update sidebar: I haven’t had breakouts like I did a while back but I do have some residual bumps from when I “slept” in the heat of the Dominican Republic without any air conditioning. That trip really did a number on my skin. When I came back, my skin was bumpy and I turned to my Ole Henriksen Hygge HydraClay Detox Mask (it’s great for calming and balancing the skin) but that didn’t seem to work.
So I thought, I need to exfoliate. Not with a scrub but with chemicals. Sounds harsh but trust me it’s pretty magical. So I turned to The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution and layered it on the areas of my skin where it was the most bumpy (my forehead, my cheeks, my chin…so everywhere). If you’re not used to acids, I would ease into this process by applying a thin layer during your first few uses and working your way up to thicker layers. It will tingle, it may sting, and your skin will definitely feel “itchy”. But you’ll get used to it. From my experience, my skin is never red or irritated afterwards. After doing this, the next morning the bumpiness on my skin was either gone or less prominent. Problem solved.
Back to my routine.
After about a minute when the Salicylic Acid is absorbed I go in with my Whamisa by Glow Recipe Green Tea Serum Toner to bring moisture and hydration back into my skin. I pat about three thin layers of this on or until I feel my skin feels good enough.
Once that’s all absorbed in, I take a little more than a pea size amount of my Make P:rem Relief Moisture Cream and apply it onto my skin. I’ve said this before but it feels like a hug. I concentrate that on areas where I know I tend to get more dry like my cheeks and the area around my mouth.
Next, I apply about a pump or two of my Make P:rem Blue Ray Sun Gel because yes, you do still need sun protection when it’s cold out.
And last but not least, there’s eye cream and lip balm. I am currently finishing up my Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado (I keep this in the fridge) and am looking for a new one. If you have a favorite, let me know. Please and thank you.
And my lip balm is just an old favorite, my Jack Black Lip Balm with SPF 25. It’s important to protect your lips too.
Then I’m done with my routine and ponder if I should bother with makeup for the day.
At the end of the day I always double cleanse my skin even if I didn’t wear any makeup that day. Because I wear sunscreen everyday and I don’t want it sitting on my skin, I start my first cleanse with the Clinique Take the Day off Cleansing Oil. This has officially replaced by old fave DHC cleansing oil. A little bit of this goes along way unlike the DHC one. I got this about 2 months ago and I’ve only used about a third of this.
Once I feel like I’ve massaged my face enough (I’m usually really impatient here so I aim for about 30 seconds), I hop into the shower and wash this off.
After I come out of the shower and my face is dry I apply The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution onto a cotton pad and swipe that over my face and neck. I usually find that there is still some residual dirt + oil on my face.
Once that’s absorbed, I follow the remaining steps of my daytime routine minus the SPF. So that means The Ordinary Salicylic Acid, Whamisa Green Tea Serum Toner, and finally the Make P:rem Safe Relief Cream. I apply a little more moisturizer here than I do in the day because I want my skin to really soak that all in during the night.
That is everything for my Fall/Winter Skincare routine. Feel free to leave me any questions about the products.
I’m always keeping an eye out for really good skincare, what are your Fall/Winter must-haves?
Thanks for stopping by and I will see you in my next post.
