It’s been over two weeks now since my last blog post recapping the year and I finally have the energy to spill the beans on what I really liked in December.
I have a few new beauty things (finally!), a few trusty clothing items, and a handful of lifestyle/random things to share with you all.
Without further rambling and because I am so bad at writing introductions, let’s get into it.
This deodorant smells so good, works so well without aluminum (no sweat and smell even after yoga), seems to last forever, is cruelty free, and last but not least, the packaging is cute and recyclable. It seriously checks off all the boxes for me. I was initially nervous about the rose scent. But it’s subtle enough that I can smell it on myself every now and then, but no one else is able to detect it. I have a coworker with a super sensitive nose and she never smells this on me. Warning: if you give this a try, you might be inclined to declare your love for it on every rooftop and hand one out to everyone in your life à la Oprah. You’ve been warned.
Laura Mercier flawless fusion ultra longer concealer (I wear the shade 2W)
I think I finally found my holy grail under eye/pimple concealer. Do people still say holy grail or am I dating myself? Doesn’t matter because this Laura Mercier concealer is the bomb. After I realized that natural concealers are full of butters and oils that just don’t jive with my skin, I decided to go back over to the chemical side. If it works, who cares if it’s not organic and natural, right? Right.
This concealer really does last all day and is so easy to layer for more coverage. It’s so easy to use and dries to a matte finish that still looks like skin. I use this everyday for work and I swear, I have not heard a “you look tired” comment since I started using this. I do have permanent dark circles so this doesn’t erase them. I don’t think anything will, unless I use the Kardashian method which I’m not interested in. Nevertheless, this concealer really brightens underneath my eyes in a way that looks really natural. If you’re in the market for a new concealer, this is definitely a worthy contender.
I love this cleanser so much I use it in the morning and night time. It cleans really well without drying out my face. And, the packaging just makes it so easy to use. Unlike the Puremay wonder stick cleanser I raved about last month which was just too messy (I do really liked the cleanser otherwise). This is a no thrills cleanser that you can use wet or dry. It seriously gets the job done. I’ve used this for over a month now and it still seems to have a lot of product left. It doesn’t break me out or make my eczema flare up so, it gets two thumbs up from me.
Reformation knit dress
This dress is my holiday season MVP. I love that I can wear it with tights and boots in the winter or bare legged with white sneakers in the spring. It’s so comfy and easy that it’s the perfect thing to put on when I want to look like I put some effort without actually doing much (my favorite) . Also, it’s very accomodating for a food baby which is truly the most important feature of any holiday outfit if you ask me.
I’ve been eyeing these hoop earrings for a while. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend so much on something that wasn’t solid gold through and through, but then I realized that it would make the earrings heavy AF. Then the 10% cashback from Jewel (talk about that more soon) convinced me to finally stop drooling over them and just order it on SSENSE. When they arrived, I put it on right away and loved how comfy they felt. They’re lightweight and don’t irritate my sensitive ears at all. I love how they add just enough of a statement without taking over. This looks equally good with a dress or with a sweater and jeans. Money well spent.
J.Crew fleece pullover (size xs)
(no longer available but the longer version here is currently on sale)
I saw Vadim get a fleece vest so I had to get a fleece
vest pullover. This was on finale sale at J.Crew so I ordered it using my American Express (return protection perk that I learned about from The Luxe Strategist aka Luxe). When I finally got my hands on it, I knew it was a definite keep forever piece. Well, until the fleece goes to crap and I have to part with it. Until then, it is keeping me real cozy. The boxy fit and double pockets make this the perfect pullover. Dear J.Crew, please bring this style back and make it in more colors. Pretty, pretty please.
(size reference: I wear a size 8, usually a 7.5 in flat shoes/sneakers and an 8 in boots)
I swore off Ugg boots forever a year ago. But during my search for the perfect winter boot that wasn’t a snow boot and didn’t cost an arm or a leg, I found this version of the Ugg boot with a rubber sole. They are so warm and actually support my feet unlike the classic Ugg boots. They’re also cheaper than the classic version, which is so funny because these are actually better, in my opinion. I would wear these every day of the week if I could. I usually wear them to work and then change into loafers. But they’re definitely comfortable enough for all day wear. There was no break in period at all. Guess who won’t be freezing their toes off this winter? Me. P.S. I ordered them them on Macy’s (currently offering 6% cashback) through Ebates.
Jewel (referral link for your first $5) aka the cashback site
I first heard of Jewel from Luxe. This is a cashback site that offers awesome rates for luxury brands and stores not available through Ebates. Like SSENSE, Net-A-Porter, Bloomingdales and even popular brands like Glossier and Everlane. They even surprised me last month and paid me early which I was really happy about. It’s super easy to use and if you use my referral code, you can get $5 right away. Happy Shopping!
I’ve never thought seriously about taking a vitamin supplement. I’m too lazy and I always figured I’ll get all of my vitamins in my food. Then I got sick last month and knew I had to do something about my crappy immune system. I picked these Olly multivitamin gummies because I’ve seen them all over Instagram and was genuinely curious about them. The fact that they’re gummies was honestly the only convincing I needed to purchase. Anyway, I’ve been eating them for about a month now and I like the taste so much that I never forget a dose. I can’t say that they’ve helped with my immune system since I did get sick again a few days ago. But I imagine building up my immune system and overall physical wellbeing takes time like anything else. I have noticed a rapid change in my forehead clearing up since taking these though. Maybe it’s the biotin in it? Anyway, I really like these and will definitely be repurchasing.
Since I mentioned being sick, I think it’s only fair to talk about what actually worked for me even though I discovered this miracle worker this month. Coldcalm seriously works. It works best when you feel you’re about to get sick but it definitely helps with symptoms too. Vadim, who is usually averse to taking medicine of any kind when sick, actually liked taking this. All you have to do is dissolve two tablets underneath your tongue. There’s no gross taste or water needed. If you’re looking for a homeopathic cold medicine, this one will definitely get the job done and then some.
Michelle Obama is one heck of a storyteller. I’m a little more than halfway through and I’m savoring each page because I don’t want it to end. I read this during my lunch breaks and my commute to and from work. When I’m reading it, I’m completely immersed. So much so that all the noise surrounding me dissipates. It even makes train delays tolerable. If you want to be inspired and reminisce about the First Family we had but could not appreciate, then definitely make this your next book to read.
I played a number of games over the holidays with friends and family and two games stuck out to me as something y’all might enjoy too.
The first one is this unboxing gift game. Let me explain. Basically, there’s a gift that is wrapped like crazy with layers and layers of wrapping paper, plastic wrap, and whatever you want to make it challenging. Each person takes a turn unwrapping it with oven mitts on both hands. You have until the person next to you rolls doubles with a pair of dice, to attempt to unwrap this gift. Once the person next to you rolls doubles, you have to stop and hand the wrapped gift over to them so they can attempt, and the person next to them tries to roll doubles. It’s a super fun game and is sure to bring a lot of laughter and maybe a little frustration. Ultimately, whoever sees the item that’s underneath all the wrapping paper wins the gift. Or, you can make up whatever rules you want to determine the winner.
This game was introduced to us by our friends and it’s so addicting! It’s a game where liberal and fascist agendas compete. Cards are given at random assigning you to be either a fascist or liberal. Only the fascists know who the other fascists are. Without confusing you with too much detail, it’s basically a game that involves detective work if you’re a liberal, and lies if you’re a fascist. If you like playing detective/being sneaky, this is the perfect game to play with friends and family. The only downside is that you need at least five people to play. But I’m telling you, you won’t want to stop playing round after round.
Trader Joe’s pick of the month
If you like the taste of sweet potato and like something with a decent crunch, these will give you both. I like keeping this at my desk at work. It’s perfect to hold me over before I can eat my lunch or as a quick snack throughout the day. I buy these two boxes at a time whenever I go to Trader Joe’s because they are just that good. Dear Trader Joe’s, never stop making these. Thanks!! Yours truly, you’re #1 groupie!
That’s everything! What are some of your favorites from last month?
Thanks for stopping by!
See you in my next post!
