Things I really liked in November 2018

I’m back!

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been doing a terrible job at keeping up with posting regularly. I don’t know how people work full time and make time for their blogs. The last thing I want to do at the end of a long day is come home and write a blog post.

My skin has also been giving me hell for a lot longer than I expected. I looked back at old photos and the last time my skin was clear was back in August. And ever since, my forehead has been breaking out nonstop which has been making me feel super self-conscious. And because I just want to hide and I can’t try new beauty things, I have very little to write about and no motivation to event attempt.

I’m also feeling pretty down on myself for only ever having the energy to write favorites and shopping diaries post. I mean, I have thoughts about other things too. So that’s been making me feel pretty crummy and unmotivated too.

The list of excuses go on, but this blog post will never be done.

Now that I’ve probably bored you to death, let me resurrect you with my November favorites. Ready? Let’s go.

1. Rent the runway

(referral code for $30 off your first order)

Totally saved my butt this month when I had to figure out what to wear for a wedding. I’ve used Rent the Runway (RTR) before and reviewed it here.

I rented this Kate Spade number because it’s reddish (Chinese people love the color red for festivities), and had long sleeves (I’m always cold), and looked like I could eat in it.

The only thing about this particular rental was that the loop to button up the top button on the back of the neck was broken. If my hair was longer, it would have been no problem. But since my hair didn’t cover it, it would have looked sloppy to have something hanging out like that. Fortunately, Vadim tied it around the button for me so there wasn’t just this loose piece hanging out. I did reach out to RTR and they reimbursed me a little bit for it. Overall, I’m still happy I decided to rent from RTR. They have awesome customer service and it’s honestly the best thing I’ve found for for event wear.

2. Entireworld sweatpants

These sweatpants are so damn cozy. I got it in the xs. It fits ankle length on me (I’m 5’5 and have short legs). The butt area also doesn’t sag too much (expect some if you’re sitting down but that’s normal) even though I’ve worn them practically every day since I’ve gotten them. I’ve even worn them out recently to run errands. No complaints at all. Fingers crossed they fare better than the James Perse ones that ripped (wrote about that here in my April shopping diaries post).

3. Benefit gimme brow + volumizing eyebrow gel

I officially found a brow product that’s better than Glossier boy brow. Don’t @ me. But, I’m not kidding. This is so easy to use. It doesn’t leave streaks you have to wipe away like I had to do with boy brow. Then again, my brow hairs are very sparse. So if you have fuller brows you might not notice the difference. But if you have sparser eyebrow hairs, the benefit brow gel might be worth a try.

I wear shade 5 and it’s the perfect match for my brows (I used to wear the shade black in Glossier boy brow). This also comes in a total of eight shades whereas Glossier only offers four shades.

4. Puremay wonder stick cleanser

(green tea & graviola version for normal/oily skin)

I’ve been skeptical about stick cleansers but this one has definitely been helping with my forehead acne. I use this in the shower at night. Once my face is wet, I roll this all over my face and then cap it back. The annoying thing is having to rinse out and wipe dry the cap and the base of the cleanser since there’s no ventilation. Definitely keep this out of your eyes and mouth though, it does not taste good and it will sting your eyes. If you’re careful, it shouldn’t be a problem. But, if you’re like me and like to rush and accidentally run the cleanser over your eyeball…you’ve been warned.

Also, I imagine this is easier to travel with then a liquid cleanser since it dries as a solid. If you’re in the market for a clean cleanser for acne, you might want to check this one out. They also offer two other versions for dry skin and sensitive skin.

5. Herbivore lapis oil balancing facial oil

I’ve mentioned this before but this seriously has been the MVP. This makes redness and swollen pimples calm down like nobody’s business. I know because I’ve picked at pimples against my better judgment and this has saved me every time. I use about three to four drops all over my face day and night. I’m officially on my second bottle and my skin is about 70% on its way to how it was before this whole mess.

6. Trader Joe’s cilantro jalapeño hummus

Trader Joe’s cilantro jalapeño hummus is SO good. It’s not spicy but has a nice subtle kick to it. This was me snacking while making dinner. I alone consumed about 80% of this whole tub. If you like hummus, definitely pick this up.

7. Trader Joe’s scalloped cracker trio

I’ve mentioned these crackers in last year’s November post (here) and I have to talk about them again.  I believe these are seasonal but please correct me if I’m wrong because these are perfect for snacking all day, everyday. Love all three flavors (garlic, red chili, and rosemary). Definitely pick these up for your next holiday party or pre-dinner snack.

What are some of your favorite things from November?

Thanks for stopping by. See you in my next post!

Sophie 🙂
