Things I really liked in October 2018

Goodbye October!

I’ve been procrastinating on this post. 90% because I’ve been lazy, 5% because it’s almost that time of the month and I feel extra sloth-like, and 5% because all I can think about are these midterm election results. As I am writing this on Tuesday night, we still don’t know if Democrats get to take back the house (midnight edit: Democrats take back the house!!!). You better believe I am staying up to see what goes down.

For now, I need to distract myself by writing this blog post.

I’m going to dive right into October highlights and lowlights (unrelated to hair).

If you’ve read my most recent weekend diaries then you’ll know that I went on a little weekend getaway to Long Island wine country with Vadim and our two friends. That was definitely a major highlight of the month. Then, me vomiting all over Vadim because I had too much wine and not nearly enough food to compete, is most definitely a major lowlight/low moment of the month. P.S. If you’re curious about my vineyard experience (both the good and the bad), check out that post linked above.

And that was about it for October. Short and sweet.

Now that we’ve got that squared away, let’s get into my October favorites.

1) Aritzia wilfred free ‘tina’ sweater (cardigan)

I’ve been wearing this cardigan nonstop. I have it in xs. It’s seriously the coziest merino wool I’ve ever worn on my body. The camel color is perfectly fall and so, so classic. The best part? it’s machine washable. Just put it into a mesh laundry bag and run it on delicate and it will be as good as new.

2) Demylee x J.Crew leopard scarf

I finally found the perfect scarf! It’s super cozy and unexpectedly so, since it’s 100% wool. I definitely wouldn’t recommend hand washing it as the site recommends (long story, but trust me on this one). Definitely dry clean it. I know it sounds crazy to go through all this trouble for a scarf but this is one I plan on having for a very long time. And I think that makes it worth taking care of. Then again, anything you wear that costs you your hard earned money should be worth your love and care.

3) J.Crew chateau parka

I got this coat two winters ago and it’s still going strong. Each year J.Crew comes out with this same coat but with minor tweaks. This year they added two new colors: lavender and this pretty light green. It’s not super warm but if you layer wool or cashmere underneath and add a scarf then there should be no problem. I have it in xs. You definitely can’t wear anything too thick underneath since the arms will feel super snug, and not in a cozy way. I like this for 40-50 degree weather days when I want to look a little more polished.

Mejuri Zodiac necklace

(Super blurry photo but for a close up look, see me unbox this necklace here in my April 2018 shopping diaries post)

I wore this so much last month. It just makes the simplest t-shirt look that much more intentional and chic. For the price ($79), you really do get a high quality piece of jewelry. Because it’s gold vermeil, I do avoid getting any water or lotion on it. I also put it back into the velvet pouch it comes in at the end of the day. I can already tell that this probably won’t be my last piece of Mejuri jewelry.

Make P:rem safe relief cream

We’ve ordered this for the fourth time this year. And I say we because both Vadim and I use this religiously. We love it because it’s unlike any moisturizer we’ve ever used. It feels like you’re giving your face a big ol’ hug. It sinks into the skin and leaves my skin feeling so moisturized but not greasy at all. This has been the only consistent thing in my skincare routine and it’s been saving my skin through this crazy breakout phase I’m having right now. If you’re in the market for a simple and clean moisturizer that gets the job done, this is definitely it.

Apple AirPods

(My first day with the AirPods. Life was never the same again.)

I’m not going to lie, I initially thought AirPods were pointless and looked stupid. Clearly, Apple got the last laugh on that one. I finally caved after hitting my breaking point with tangled headphones and decided to give AirPods a try. I was definitely nervous about how secure they would be but they have been a serious game changer. I love that I don’t have to untangle headphones on the train anymore or attempt to find them in my backpack. The little container it comes in, is so easy to spot. They’re also very comfortable in my ears and have given me no problems. I did make the mistake of getting them at the Apple store but don’t be like me. Save about $15 and get FREE 2-day shipping by ordering it on Walmart here. Now that’s an offer you can’t refuse.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

This is not anything like the Melissa Joan Hart version of Sabrina. This is darker, scarier, and more mysterious. I wasn’t sure if I would be into it but after the first episode, I was hooked. Each episode will keep you at the edge of your seat. I promise. Unless nothing spooks or intrigues you. See for yourself below because I’m terrible at describing shows.

That’s everything for October

Clearly, I took a lot of mirror selfies last month. I also didn’t have any favorite snacks. Shocking, I know. I don’t even know who I am anymore and I’m clearly not perusing through the aisles of Trader Joe’s well enough. I’ve been slacking. Anyway, enough about me.

What were your favorites from last month?

Thanks for stopping by.

See you in my next post!

Sophie 🙂
