OOTD: I wore polka dots to a job interview

Yesterday, I went on another interview. And once again, my Rent the Runway (RTR) unlimited membership came through for me. (Read my initial thoughts of their service here).

I originally rented this black and white polka dotted dress from The Kooples (on sale on Yoox for $175) as a backup. But as fate would have it, the other dress ended up being unavailable. So I wore this one to my interview instead.

The bag is also rented and the flats are my own.

At first, I wasn’t sure if the print would be flattering on me. But after wearing it for my interview and coming home and writing this blog post with it still on, I realized I’m a fan. I like that the polka dots are small and subtle. It adds just enough without overwhelming the eyes.

I think this dress and print could easily look a bit too much like a costume. But because of the details (e.g. sheer laced panels on the sleeves, white collar, and button down detailing) and the oversized fit (I’m wearing an xs), it definitely looks modern and chic side. At least, I think so.

So it seems like I was meant to wear this dress. If it wasn’t for my RTR unlimited membership, I would have had to buy a button down shirt or dress pants. Both of which I don’t wear, except for rare occasions like this. This dress, on the other hand, is more interesting and versatile. It can be styled in so many different ways and be worn for all occasions.

Exhibit A: From interview to post grocery run

Now, that I’ve officially joined the polka dotted side, there’s only one thing left to do. Find the perfect polka dotted piece to add to my closet. The hunt starts now.

Are you a fan of this polka dot print? How would you have styled this dress?

P.S. If you’d like to give RTR a try, here’s a link for $30 off your first order: happy renting!

Thanks for stopping by.

See you in my next post which will be my April spending post (finally!).
