Weekend style: Stripes, denim, and the perfect cardigan

Saturday

For some reason when I think of a “warm” spring day, my immediate go-to look is a striped tee, jeans, and flats.

I went with my navy Rothy’s because they’re made of this knit material that keeps my feet warm enough during this weird in-between weather. I’ve talked about these flats before in my favorite 3 piece style combo post. To sum it up: these are incredibly durable, comfortable, and machine washable.

This Everlane boxy striped tee (my size: xs) is quite different from any I’ve owned before. The boxy, cropped length with the side slits make it flattering on my long torso. I do wish the sleeves were full length instead of 3/4 length though. I’m not sure why but leaving that part of my arms uncovered always makes me feel cold, no matter the season. Maybe it’s a mental thing. I do like that it is a heavyweight 2-ply cotton. Previous striped tees would always shift around underneath my jackets and wrinkle up throughout the day but this one stays put.

I put my AGOLDE jeans to rest for the weekend and wore my Re/Done high rise ankle crop skinny jeans (my size: 25). Since mentioning them in my September favorites post, I (my mom) cut a few inches off so I won’t have to roll them up anymore. Now, they’re actually ankle length on me. They’re comfortable, works well with flats, and tucks into boots perfectly. The only downside is that they’re $240. I don’t own that many jeans (a total of 5) so I figure it’s better to spend more on a pair that will stay with me for a while.

I wish it was warm enough to walk out of the house without a jacket but alas, it was not. I didn’t want to wear a bulky jacket so I decided to layer my forest green J.Crew vest (current season version on sale here) underneath my pink Everlane puffer. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I guess, spring is when you really have to get creative with layering.

Because it was sunny I actually needed my sunglasses. I love these Karen Walker ones. I got them during a Shopbop sale almost two years ago and I love them so much because they actually fit my face and don’t slide down my nose. I also show how they look like on here.

Final look with outerwear

I would probably wear this look again for a casual day of running errands.

Sunday

Yesterday felt much more like winter. While I was excited to wear my new Dôen cardigan (my size: xs/s), I was not excited to have to wear socks. I just hate feeling confined by them. Anyone else feel this way?

I decided to wear my Sam Edelman riding boots since it would give me the most leg coverage and keep me warm. There’s also a lot of snow and dirty puddles around my neighborhood so I figured these would be a better option than my silver Loeffler Randall boots that I wore last weekend.

I wore the same Re/Done jeans because they’re easy to tuck into my boots. If I didn’t have to wear my boots, I would have definitely worn my straight legged AGOLDE jeans instead.

Anyway, I tucked my gray J.Crew tee (in xs) into my jeans to complement the proportions of my cropped cardigan and high-waisted jeans.

If it was warmer I would have opted to wear flats or evens sneakers with this look. This outfit makes me look like I’m wearing a costume. I was definitely comfortable and warm so on a practical level, I get 👍🏼👍🏼. In terms of style, I’m not sure I was in the mood to look like I was about to go take my horse on a ride. I definitely wanted to look more relaxed especially on a Sunday.

I am in love with my new cardigan though. It is probably the most expensive piece of clothing I own aside from my winter coat. Don’t pass out on me but it’s $358, and that doesn’t include the cost of shipping. I won’t go into the dollars and cents of it now though, I will save it for an upcoming March spending post.

For now, I will say that I have been searching for the perfect cardigan for a very long time. Something that is substantial in weight, a flattering cropped fit, and well made. I also don’t own any cardigans I love. I am actually on my way to donating the two long gray ones that I haven’t worn in a very long time. They don’t do anything for my outfits or my long torso. This means that I’ll only have one cardigan in my entire closet. And if I have only one, it better be one that can do it all. This is my philosophy on clothes.

So far, I have no regrets. I am debating if I should size up to a medium though. What do you think? Either way, I imagine I will be wearing this over and over again with all kinds of looks. And, I’ll be warm in the process. What’s not to love?
