Review: Glossier ‘s Wowder and Invisible Shield

My face has always been on the shinier side of things. I always need powder and the powder always wears off, leaving me with a glorious triangle of oil on my forehead. Need proof?

I present you with exhibit A.

(This was taken during my recent trip to Montreal.)

So when Glossier launched Wowder (face powder) and made it seem so easy to use, I couldn’t resist jumping on the bandwagon. I purchased the middle shade in “dark/deep” and have been using it for the past few days, both with and without makeup. (Wowder and Wowder brush duo goes for $35).

Here’s a 39 second video to show what it did for my skin and how it looked afterwards. If you’re interested, hit play 🙂

Here’s what I like about it so far:

-I can’t feel it on my skin
-It doesn’t look “too matte” or “cakey”…it still looks like my skin.
-The shine on my forehead, cheeks, and nose go away. It just looks like I swept the shine away.
-It’s easy to use. I press my brush into the sifter and it bounces back with just the right amount of powder. No mess.

-Though the shade “dark/deep” looks darker than my complexion, the powder vanishes and blends in seamlessly. I purchased this particular shade because I use their perfecting skin tint in dark, which matches my current skin tone.

Here’s what I think could be better:

Honestly, as far as powders go, I’m pretty impressed with this one. It’s fuss-free and does the job. In a perfect world, it would make me shine free all day. But I’ve never met a powder that did that. I don’t mind reapplying in the middle of the day because it is just that easy to use.

And because I was already in Glossier and coincidentally needed sunscreen after running out my favorite one from Make Prem, I got the Invisible Shield ($34 for 1 oz) to see if it lived up to the hype.

Here’s what I like about it so far:

-It is a lightweight consistency that absorbs into the skin really easily.
-It makes my skin look dewy.
-It has a really light scent that doesn’t linger. It smells faintly of sunscreen mixed with some kind of lemon/citrus scent.
-The pump packaging makes it easy to use.
-Because it’s only 1 oz, it’s travel-friendly.

Here’s what I think could be better:

-It’s pricey at $34 for 1 oz of sunscreen for your face. My favorite sunscreen from Make Prem costs less at $24 and has 2.53 oz of product. That’s 2.5 times more product!
-The formula could be a bit more hydrating. It’s not drying by any means, but I find that I have to apply more product than usual. Which means this will probably run out on me in a few weeks.

If you’re looking for a gentle and easy to use sunscreen for your face and you don’t mind the cost, then you might want to give this one a try.

Do you have a holy grail face powder or sunscreen?
Would love to know!

Feel free to leave me any questions about either of the products.

Thanks for stopping by. I’ll see you in my next post.

Sophie 🙂
