If you’ve been reading my blog for a while or know me personally, then you know that I don’t like wearing makeup and WILL show up 99% of the time with a blank canvas. But last year when I was planning my wedding makeup look, I scoured the web for looks that would require minimal effort with a good amount of payoff. But I couldn’t find anything simple (for a non-makeup wearer) OR anything that didn’t require 20 things I didn’t own. Long story short, I ended up buying and returning a bunch of things and ended up with this look. It’s not the worst but I didn’t feel as comfortable and confident as I wanted to on such an occasion.
Since then I have been slowly building my small but mighty makeup collection. And by collection, I mean just the essentials that get me to look like myself with a few subtle enhancements. So almost a year later, here are three makeup things that I would have liked to do differently.
1. Use Glossier Boy Brow instead of the brow pencil that melted with the summer heat. This could have also saved me from the overfilled eyebrows that plagued my college days. It brings all your brow hairs to life, stays put, and is so easy to apply. This is my third one!
2. Put some Cloud Paint on! I used a coral blush that barely showed up on my face that day. It would have been nice to add some warmth and color to my cheeks. Cloud Paint in Beam is my favorite and seriously the only cheek product I use. It has great color payoff, is so easy to use, and won’t melt off. Read my full review here.
3. Swap out the expensive (and drying) lip gloss I’ve worn a total of 3 times with Ilia’s Tinted Lip Conditioner in Kokomo. It has SPF 15, great subtle color payoff, is hydrating, easy to apply, and contains no toxins (according to Follain.com, where I purchased this). I definitely see myself alternating between this and my usual lip balm on days when I want a little bit more.

Although I prefer my makeup to be simple and basic, I can’t deny the fascination with a 20 step makeup routine. I love watching those videos and marveling at the dedication that people put into transforming their faces into a more glamorous persona.
Are you a fan of something more simple or more glamorous? Would love to read your thoughts in the comment section.
Thanks for stopping by. I’ll see you in my next post!
